Fijian Authorities and IDCARE Sign MoU to Strengthen Consumer Protection and Cyber Resilience

Fijians now have stronger protection against scams, identity theft, and online threats, thanks to a new partnership between the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), the Consumer Council of Fiji (CCoF), and IDCARE, a community support service for victims of cybercrimes, scams and identity theft.

A newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will drive a coordinated national response, connecting Fijians with free expert support and boosting resilience in communities and small businesses.

Under the MoU, communities across Fiji—including rural and disadvantaged areas—will benefit from:

  • Direct access to IDCARE’s specialist advice and support to recover from scams, identity theft, and cybercrime.
  • Community outreach and local awareness programs to build scam awareness and resilience.
  • Stronger national coordination among consumer authorities and regulators to respond to online threats.
  • Training and capacity‑building initiatives to empower Fijians to protect themselves and their businesses.

This collaboration builds on IDCARE’s trial of its case management services in Fiji, which began in November 2024 under the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Cyber and Critical Tech Co‑operation Program. The trial has already assisted individuals and microbusinesses impacted by online scams, while helping to strengthen Fiji’s long‑term resilience to cybercrime.
